The Great Awakening by Daniel Meurois

Liberating the Divine in You

The beginnings of the journey—undertaken by the being in awakening—when it becomes conscious and voluntary, are generally made up of extraordinary discoveries. We learn a multitude of things of the subtle order and go from sensations of revelations to certainties of revelations.

TIME OF REVELATIONS

This is a magical period during which we distinctly and delightfully perceive a kind of veil being torn within us. We claim to have found our direction, to have rediscovered our "soul family" and to be on the road to our Liberation.

We are, of course, unaware - other than in theory - that our goal is neither ahead of us nor above us, but well within us.

Lacking experience and carried away by the emotional aspect of our discoveries, we have not yet had time to understand and integrate the fact - that it is by descending we ascend.

Most of the time we are convinced of the transcendental linearity of our trajectory, whereas in reality we are never more than at a crossroads within ourselves. A major crossroads, no doubt, but a crossroads nonetheless, with choices to be made, trial and error, and the tests this implies. As a result, we need to experience all the ways in which it unfolds, all the avenues that reveal themselves.Depending on our personalities and backgrounds, we'll be tempted to visit them in our own way and at our own pace.

In no particular order, here's how some of them are laid out...

AVENUE OF THE INITIATES

Since this is so glorious and so attractive, here is the Avenue of the Initiates. We all walk along this road at one time or another, because it is the road of pretension, the road of those who feel they are above the fray, who have read everything, who have grasped everything about life, and of those who give lessons and talk about the Maya—the Matrix— as if they themselves had surpassed it.

In truth, there are people who use this path all the time, especially today in these times of 'Revelation'. But because it is so wide, it is difficult to really meet anyone. Most of those who use this Avenue simply stare at each other...

AVENUE OF SOLITUDE

The Avenue of Solitude also opens up to us at some point. It's a difficult one to avoid... We're not sure whether it attracts or frightens us, whether it leads to a refuge or a prison. It can feel protective or destructive, restorative or, on the contrary, bitter. We come across, but don't meet, all sorts of people. Some are meditating, others praying, fasting or silently engaging in strange activities.

Some are clearly depressed, frustrated, fearful, anxious, hypocritical too. Fortunately, however, there are some very enlightened ones...Of course, we'll have to travel a long way to get to know the virtues and dangers of this world, where we experience numbness, ego-scrubbing and, ultimately, the joys of rebirth.

SHOPPING AVENUE

As for the Avenue of Stores, it's just as hard to avoid, as it's seductive with its shop windows offering a multitude of techniques and devices with seemingly miraculous effects. Some call it the Avenue of Ascension, precisely because there are so many kiosks offering us promising transcendental recipes for joining the realized Masters with their colorful flames...

With its future "chosen ones", this avenue is very colorful. There are a number of singular characters who make pseudo-scientific and pseudo-philosophical speeches. There are also a few researchers, looking a little lost... and lots of naïve people and sleepwalkers.

THE AVENUE OF THE EXTREMES

And then there's... the inevitable Avenue of the Extremes. Those who linger there are in their excessive, intransigent phase. Some perform all kinds of exercises in rigid poses, stubborn and fanatical in their gaze, while others give speeches in a loud voice, one finger pointing to the sky.

This avenue leads to a large circular square called the Place of Impatience. From here, you enter the Kundalini Ashram. This is a rather pompous monument built over the last few decades by some of the residents of the Avenue of the Initiates. This is the school of many teachers, where they tell us how to quickly reach the Seventh Heaven, mocking the various phases... The rise of the kundalini is the declared supreme goal... but we're not told there's no "after-sales service" available...

THE AVENUE OF TEMPERANCE

Finally, and fortunately, there is also an Avenue of Temperance. However, it should be pointed out that this avenue is much less popular than its predecessors, due to the bad publicity it receives. Indeed, some say it is an avenue of lukewarmness and boredom.

In reality, those who make such claims have no idea the souls who frequent the Avenue of Temperance have only done so because they have already lingered on all the other avenues; they are unaware that they have exhausted all the excuses, charms and rhinestones.

In fact, there aren't really any visitors on the Avenue of Temperance. Those you do meet are more likely to be residents. If you happen to be invited into the home of one of them, you'll no doubt be astonished by the modesty of their house's frontage. However, once you've crossed the threshold, you'll be even more amazed by the immensity of the house and the perfume it exudes. You won't want to leave... all the more so as the atmosphere is so cheerful.

You won't find any of the stolid faces you've seen elsewhere. Nor will you hear sententious expressions like "I came to Earth to..." because on the Avenue of Temperance and in its residences, there's no breathing space for bloated egos or pseudo-masters.

You'll see only simple people who seek transparency. Even if they haven't yet realized Unity within themselves, they're on the way to it, and this certainty already makes them happy, because the same motto still adorns the pediment of their homes: ‘Serenity is happiness learned to fly only above the clouds.’
